The pulsed light technology (Intense Pulsed Light) follows and replaces laser technology, allowing the accomplishment of several treatments with effectiveness and security. Among these treatments are hair removal, photo rejuvenation, cell stimulation, treatment of pigmented lesions or vasular removal and many others.

Pulsed Light System is a highly technical device which unites a generator of energy, with a cooling system coupled with a hand piece. The hand piece contains a Xenon lamp and light guide including a filter, which casts a bright flash on the skin.

The pulsed light is absorbed by chromophores (colored pigments) in the skin, which react to the photo thermal effect either by being destroyed or irreversibly modified. This is the principle of selective photothermolysis (photo= light, thermo= heat, lysis= destruction, selective= targets only the hair without damaging the surrounding tissue) which is used by laser and Intense Pulsed Light Systems.

This technology has many uses. For hair removal for example, the target is the colored pigment contained in the hair (melanin). The controlled heating of the pillared stem and the follicle enables the destruction of the peripheral cells (germinal cells) which are responsible for the new hair’s growth. This concept was defined by Anderson and Parrish in 1983. This technology enables the user to target an individual chromophore and not the peripheral tissues ensuring safety and effectiveness to the treatment.
